Slatwall; your FAQ’s
We spend a lot of time answering questions in the office, some obvious and some very obscure, so this week I thought I’d answer the 5 most common questions we receive about slatwall.
1. What size are the panels?
The most commonly sold size of panels are 8’ x 4’ approximately or 2400 x 1220mm. They are usually manufactured slightly larger than this, and each edge is trimmed to give a nice smooth finish. They can be manufactured larger, around 10’ x 8’ or smaller, 4’ x 4’.
2. Can you paint it?
The majority of panels are already finished with a laminate, melamine or veneer coating, but you can buy ready to paint panels. These are known are raw panels and are manufactured in the same way as finished boards, just without the coating.
3. What size is the gap between each groove?
Standard slatwall panels have a gap of 100mm between the grooves, measuring from the top of one groove to the top of the next groove. This is called the ‘pitch’. 50mm pitch and 75mm pitch panels are also commonly used. Crown Display can manufacture panels to almost any pitch required.
4. Inserts; do I need them?
Slatwall panels can function and be used without inserts. However, there are a few reasons why we do not recommend using your panels without them; inserts hide the raw, uncoated part of the board where the grooves are routered, making them much more cosmetically pleasing to the eye. Chrome accessories are also known for having a bit of a wobble, inserts prevent this from happening. Inserts are also important to the strength of your panel, meaning it can support heavier weight and will help your panels last longer.
5. How do I fit it?
There are many guides on how to fit slatwall panels, one of which you can find here. The most important thing to remember is to fit the panel through the grooves then fit your inserts, giving you a beautifully fitted panel with hidden fixings.
