Shelving the Rules!

Just for fun, I thought you might enjoy a break from the usual shop shelving, Slatwall and retail display blog and decided to lighten the day with a good laugh. In our daily lives, we are surrounded by rules and regulations. They are an essential part of society and enables us to live in harmony (well, almost!) Break the law, suffer the consequences. I wonder if we could live by some of the laws introduced into society in previous centuries. Some of these are urban myths, some based in truth and some are even still in effect today! Certainly some of these weird and wonderful ‘rules’ deserve to be shelved.

  • In Scotland it is an offence to be drunk whilst in charge of a cow, horse or steam engine.
  • Kissing was banned in England in 1439 (to stop germs from spreading).
  • In 1313 it was ruled that MP’s are not permitted to wear armour in parliament.
  • Placing a postage stamp bearing the monarch’s head, upside down on an envelope is considered an act of treason.
  • It is illegal to erect a washing line across a street.
  • Importing potatoes into England or Wales that you know or suspect are polish is illegal.
  • If you live in Scotland, you must allow anyone who knocks on your door asking to ‘use the loo’ to, you guessed it, use your loo!
  • And finally, it is an offence to stand sockless within 100 yards of the Queen.

Don’t worry, we are still here for all your essential shopfitting needs and if you know a rule or 2 that is daft we’d love to hear it.
